about us

The Pelican magazine started life as an end-of-pew news-sheet in what we believe was the 1960s; it was rebranded as ‘The Pelican‘ in 1977, named after Percy the Pelican which lived on the Coquet river at Warkworth from 1973-1976. Since that time the news-sheet has expanded both in size and scope into the current magazine which is both church and community focused. We welcome submission of articles, photos, notices, event reports, jokes, puzzles and other items which may be of interest to the local community.
The magazine is edited, produced and delivered by a team of volunteers from the local community and managed by a committee drawn from this volunteer team. The content is generated by the local community and the views and opinions of articles do not necessarily reflect those of the Editors and Committee. We are unable to include submissions which the editors believe may cause offence or controversy. Every attempt is made to ensure that the information published in The Pelican is accurate. The editors and production team cannot be held responsible for the consequences of any errors or omissions.
The Pelican is funded primarily through the subscription fees, some advertising and donations from the church, local organisations and individuals; we do not receive any grant funding.
